He took it to a whole new level today.
It started out yesterday looking like a small allergic reaction. I gave him some benedryl and we called it a night.
What I did not expect was this to walk into my bathroom early this morning:
Whoa! I had a "Hitch" moment.
I admit, I had to laugh. Jacob's poor swollen face was so funny. And he could not stop looking at himself in the mirror.
And for good reason. He actually has his eyes opened as wide as they would go in this picture. This is the last one I took before we went to the doctor. I wish I could say that this is as bad as it got, but it continued to worsen. By the time we got to the doctor's office the red splotches were fire red and also on his arms and torso. I have never seen the people at the doctor (nor seen a doctor for that matter) move as fast as we got rushed through today. The doctor practically ran for steroids.
A swab of the throat revealed strep, so we are treating him for that along with the steriods to keep the inflammation at bay. The doctor was pretty baffled by the whole thing. It's got to win an award for the strangest manifestation of strep in a kid. EVER. At least, that's what we are hoping this is.
I had to laugh when this poor little ugly face looked up at me when we were filling prescriptions at the grocery store and he told me he didn't have any friends. Number 1, I don't know why he said that and Number 2, how true that would be if he really did look like this!! Sad, but true.
A few hours after the first dose of steriods, Jacob showed marked improvement.
For the most part he is acting normally and eating and playing just like he would on any other day. For now we remain in isolation until the meds do their work. And we look at the pictures from today and laugh. Because man, that was weird. Weird, but true!
