I've come to the conclusion that I need to scale back my sugar consumption. *Note: This is not an effort to lose weight. * This is me coming to the realization that sugar is bad. And I don't want to be diabetic one day because I felt like I could eat anything I wanted to, anytime I wanted to because I "exercise" and and am not "overweight". See, you can be thin and not be healthy. Just saying.
As a wise person once said, Everything in moderation. So, I've decided to avoid sweets during the week and at those moments when I previously would have grabbed a handful of Publix brand gummy bears (or two) and eaten them, I will drink a glass of water or eat a handful of almonds instead. At those moments when I would have eaten a Chewy granola bar, I'll eat an apple or banana with peanut butter. On the weekends, I'll be more indulgent.
Yesterday was the first day of my new resolve and it wasn't too bad. Today is harder because I've been home all day. I actually picked up a cookie and smelled it. Then put it down. Talk about torture. Don't even know why I did that to myself.
The fact of the matter is, the better I take care of myself now, the better I will feel later...and thats when it will really matter.
Ps. The above mentioned Publix gummy bears are the best in the world and here is why: The green ones, aren't lime. They are apple. Finally, a green flavor that doesn't taste green.
LOL! i have your disease! Fortunately for me the snackfood in China stinks so I have 100 times less temptations here. I am being forced through no choice of my own to eat healthy snacks. It's probably the only way i can do it!
ReplyDeleteThe other problem, Gretchen, is that my kids are catching on to me when I sneak a treat...makes it hard to say, Mommy can have fistfuls of gummy bears and you can't have any! The sad thing is, I would never let them eat the way I feed myself!
ReplyDeleteIf you have a sweet tooth, throw in a few raisins w/ the almonds...really helps. This snack is a staple item for me.
