It seems my sweet little Gerbers are wimps.
It hasn't even gotten hot yet and this is what they do. They sit in the sun for about 2 mins and flop over on their sides.
A little horticulture education later, I learn that although they do like lots of sunshine, the little sweeties prefer morning sun to afternoon sun. Well, we can't have limp Gerbers at the Smith house.
This just won't do. After the storms of the previous weekend during which most of their petals were beaten off by heavy rains and most of their dirt was washed away by the volume of water pouring from the skies, the flowers were really just struggling to survive. They were beaten, drowned, hot and...limp.
On second thought, that nice sunny new flower bed I broke my back creating will be the perfect spot for my tomatoes. Or a cactus.
It didn't take much to uproot the poor dears. They were barely holding on as it was. It appears that they are in nice, rich soil in the pictures, but that is nice rich soil that I just put in- 5 bags worth. Jacob ran and got a spoon - son, put that spoon back in the kitchen - while I used his little sand shovel and we carefully moved the sick babies to their new pot homes. This photo below is in the midst of moving day. You can see the sad little droopy pink one. We shall check back in a few days to see how they are liking their new pots. If they survive the storms that come through tonight.
In other news...Jacob learned a life lesson.
I cringe. I laugh. I worry. When will this resurface in an embarrassingly inappropriate time or setting?
Love it!!! Hope your little flowers survive!
ReplyDeleteMax will often look for an excuse to pee outside. It's true. Though it sure as heck comes in handy on road trips when no one else needs to go. It's true. :-)
